Badlur's Gate 3 has a total of 12 classes and 46 subclasses, which makes it nearly impossible to decide which one to play. Each of the classes offers a variety of skills and therefore options for your character. But don't worry too much about which class to choose; Larian Studios revealed that there will be a respec option in the game, meaning you can reset your class and reinvest the levels. But it isn't known how or when exactly in the game this will be possible.

If you're familiar with D&D you'll know what to expect, for everyone new to this game it may seem overwhelming. But without further ado, let's start with the list, it will be long enough:

Barbarian

As usual for D&D Barbarians have a primary ability of Strength and saving throw proficiencies in Strength and Constitution. They're skilled in the use of light and medium armor as well as with shields, simple weapons and martial weapons. As soon as you reach level 3 you'll be able to choose from three subclasses:

• Berserker
• Wildheart
• Wild Magic

The Original Character Karlach is a Tiefling Barbarian and while they can be quite tanky and even charming they have usually a pretty low intelligence score.

Bard

Bards have a primary ability of Charisma (surprising, I know) and saving throw proficiencies in Charisma and Dexterity to either talk your way out of the angry partner of your last romantic night or dodge what ever they're throwing at you. They have proficiency with light armor, simple weapons as well as long- and shortswords, rapiers, hand crossbows and of course musical instruments.

The three subclasses you can choose from at level 3 are:

• Lore
• Valor
• Swords

While there's no Original Character who is a bard, they're usually known for being charming and having lots of affairs with their groupies.

Cleric

With a primary ability of Wisdom and the same for saving throw, proficiencies in Wisdom and Charisma, Clerics are determined to solve problems with words, but they are well-equipped to use violence should the words go unheard. They have a proficiency with light and medium armor, as well as shields and simple weapons. There are seven subclasses you can choose from:

• Life
• Light
• Nature
• Tempest
• Trickery
• War
• Knowledge

If you meet Shadowheart you'll see that not only the subclass you choose but also the deity will have impact on your cleric.

Druid

Druids have a primary ability of Wisdom but since they're little weirdos (I mean that in a loving way) and a bit socially awkward their saving throw proficiencies are Wisdom and Intelligence, not Charisma. They're proficient with light and medium armor, shields and a bunch of weapons: clubs, daggers, darts, javelins, maces, quarterstaff, scimitars, sickles and spears. At level 2 you'll be able to choose from three subclasses:

• Circle of the Land
• Circle of the Moon
• Circle of the Spores

If you've seen the bear-video, you already know Halsin, the first druid of the grove. I wonder if you get the same opportunity with your own druid and their animal shape... Astarion seems kinky enough.

Fighter

As you'd expect them, a fighter has a primary ability of Strength and also saving throw proficiencies in Strength and Constitution, like a barbarian. A Fighter is proficient with all kinds of armor, shields, simple weapons and martial weapons. Right at the start, you can choose your preferred fighting style and as soon as you reach level 3 you can choose from three subclasses:

• Battle Master
• Eldritch Knight
• Champion

Lae'zel is a fighter, and you'll soon notice, that she isn't as charismatic as Karlach, but she indeed is pretty smart.

Paladin

As a holy warrior, a paladin has a primary ability of Strength with saving throw proficiencies in Wisdom and Charisma. Like a fighter, they're proficient with all kinds of armor, shields, simple weapons and martial weapons. There are three subclasses you can choose from:

• Oath of the Ancients
• Oath of Devotion
• Oath of Vengeance

If you should break your oath during the game, you'll unlock the fourth subclass Oathbreaker.

Ranger

As a ranger, you'll use a mixture of martial prowess and nature magic in combat and have a primary ability of Dexterity. The saving throw proficiencies are in Strength and Dexterity while they're skilled with light and medium armor, shields, simple and martial weapons. At level 3 you'll get three subclasses to choose from:

• Hunter
• Beast Master
• Gloom Stalker

You can also select traits like Favored Enemy, which will grant you additional useful abilities.

Rogue

Rouges have their primary ability in Dexterity, with saving throws in Dexterity and Intelligence. They're proficient with light armor, simple weapons, long- and shortswords as well as rapiers and hand crossbows and no matter with which weapon, their sneak attack is always a good way to deal damage. Again, you can choose from three subclasses as soon as you reach level 3:

• Arcane Trickster
• Assassin
• Thief

Although he comes from a noble background, Astarion is a rouge through and through.

Sorcerer

Sorcerers have a primary ability of Charisma and saving throw proficiencies in Charisma and Constitution. They're designated glass cannons since they're not proficient in any type of armor. But they are proficient with daggers, quarterstaff and light crossbows, and you can choose again from three subclasses:

• Wild Magic
• Draconic Bloodline
• Storm Sorcery

Sorcerers are born with magical skills, which means they don't have to rely on spellbooks like wizards or higher powers like warlocks.

Warlock

As a warlock you'll have the primary ability of Charisma with saving throw proficiencies in Charisma and Wisdom. Warlocks are skilled with light armor and simple weapons, and again you can choose from three subclasses to start with:

• Archfey
• The Fiend
• The Great Old One

Warlocks like Wyll, an Origin Character, gain their power from a bargain with an extraplanar entity, their patron. Everything has its price, huh?

Wizard

Since wizards have to study for their powers, they have Intelligence as a primary ability. Their saving throw proficiencies are in Intelligence and Widsom, and they're skilled with daggers, quaterstaffs and light crossbows – and not a single armor type, so they're glass cannons just like sorcerers. As soon as you reach level 2 you can choose from eight subclasses:

• Abjuration
• Conjuration
• Divination
• Enchantment
• Evocation
• Necromancy
• Illusion
• Transmutation

Gale truly is a wizard, with his love for books and libraries – he will tell you that more than once. Also, he's killed pretty quick. Wizards should stay in the back.

Monk

Monks aren't available at early access. They have a primary ability of Dexterity and Wisdom, with saving throw proficiencies in Strength and Dexterity. They are proficient with simple weapons and shortswords and at level 3 you can choose from three subclasses:

• Way of the Open Hand
• Way of the Shadow
• Way of the Four Elements

The Origin Character Dark Urge is a monk by default, but you can customize them to your liking.
